The popular glacier ski race
The Diavolezza downhill race, inaugurated in 1930, was held for the last time in 1980 after a total of 34 races. It is not clear why the tradition came to an end. In March 2024, the race was revived as the “Diavolezza Glacier Race” and is now held every year. This popular ski and snowboard race on Switzerland’s longest glacier run starts at the Diavolezza mountain station (2,978 m ASL). The eight-kilometre long route takes you over the Pers and Morteratsch glacier, past the ice giants Piz Palü and Piz Bernina, down to the finish in Morteratsch (1,896 m ASL). With an altitude difference of over 1,000 metres, the ungroomed run offers a unique snow sports experience.
